UCLA Awards 2018: Angela M. Sanchez '13, M.Ed. '15, Community Service Award
Angela M. Sanchez is the recipient of the 2018 UCLA Award for Community Service. She earned her bachelor's in history and her master's in education, with a focus in student affairs. In volunteering with School on Wheels, Inc., she established the first university faction of the nonprofit at UCLA, assisting K-12 homeless students in navigating postsecondary education. Sanchez created college admissions and financial aid workshops tailored to the students' needs in addition to volunteer recruitment, staff training, donor and community relations, and development.

Angela's family had been homeless. UCLA graduate Angela Sanchez (Class of '13) talks about overcoming the odds before enrolling in Westwood. Now, she works closely to help current Bruins earn their bachelor's degrees.

Thanks to School on Wheels that Angela sought opportunities. This video is a tribute by GEF to Angela M. Sanchez, an author and illustrator of her first self-published children's book in what will be an ongoing series, "Scruffy and the Egg." Angela serves as a Program Officer with ECMC Foundation.
